What we collect, and what we don’t.

Scanning a badge

When you scan a badge we record which badge, and when, so the fire department or facility that put it there can see it’s being used. Alongside that we keep a truncated network prefix — enough to tell one town from another, not enough to identify a person or a household — and your browser’s user-agent string.

We do not record your name, your account, or your precise location, and we don’t read a cookie to do it. If you’re signed in when you scan, the scan is linked to your account; if you later delete your account, that link is removed and the scan stays only as an anonymous count.

Progress and levels when you’re signed out

If you use ResQ‑R without an account, anything you build up — what you’ve looked at, how far you’ve got — is stored in your browser and nowhere else. It is never sent to our servers. We can’t see it, we can’t export it for you, and we can’t delete it for you. Clearing your browser data removes it.

If you later create an account and you are 13 or older, that progress can be moved onto your account so it isn’t lost. If you are under 13, it is never uploaded — it stays in the browser, and nothing about it reaches us.

Accounts

You need to be 13 or older to create an account. Everything that matters most here — scanning badges, reading every safety guide — works without one, so nothing is locked away from anyone younger.

An account stores your email address and a record of this agreement: which version you accepted and when. You can delete your account at any time.

How long we keep things

We don’t keep anything indefinitely just in case. When the reason for holding something has passed, it goes.

Badges you create outlive your account

This is the one place where deleting your account doesn’t delete everything. A badge is a sticker on a fire extinguisher or an AED. If we removed the page it points to, the next person to scan it — possibly in an emergency — would get a dead link. So badges you create stay published and pass to EdQuest. Your name and account come off them.

Children

ResQ‑R is meant to be useful to everyone who walks past a fire extinguisher, and that includes children. That is exactly why the parts a child is most likely to use — scanning, reading, learning — ask for nothing and store nothing about them on our servers.
