It reads the heart rhythm itself and will only deliver a shock if one is needed, so it cannot be used on someone who doesn't need it. Open the case and it talks you through the rest. In most states, Good Samaritan laws protect anyone who uses one in good faith.
What to do
- Call 911 first, or send someone else to call while you fetch the AED.
- Open the case and switch the unit on - it gives spoken instructions.
- Place the pads on bare skin as shown in the diagram.
- Stand clear while it analyses, then do what it tells you.
- Keep going until emergency responders take over.
